08-08-31 - Rydell still fourth in championship

Rickard Rydell saw his chance of moving up in the championship standings after sixth place in the first race at Oschersleben. But that chance disappeared in the first corner in the second race.

The two races at Oschersleben proved to be dramatic, as so many times before in the WTCC. Rickard Rydell had the chance of gaining some points on the leaders after a good first race in Germany. Rydell was sixth and with third on the grid for the second race it looked good.
”I had a really good car this weekend, the set-up was working well. I was only tenth in qualifying after a technical problem at the beginning of the session and then a yellow flag flag on my last run cost some time as well. The first race was good and I finished in sixth, scoring three points and third on the grid for the second race”, Rickard Rydell said.
The second heat on Sunday afternoon did not go as Rydell had hoped for. He had too much wheelspin at the start and lost some places before he was hit from behind. Rydell went wide into the gravel and when he was back on the track he was down in 20th. Rydell is still fourth in the drivers’ championship with eight rounds to go, but several drivers closed in on the Swede in Germany.
”Of course I’m disappointed with the second race. I had a really good chance of gaining a lot of points on the championship leaders, but it wasn’t to be this time. I’ll try again at Imola in three weeks.”
