09-05-16 - Rydell hindered by regulation changes
Rickard Rydell may have qualified fastest of the works SEAT drivers in Pau but he wasn’t better than 15th. The lack of speed is the result of regulation changes for the diesel engine.
”The only thing I can do is to drive as fast as possible. I leave the politics to others”, said Rickard Rydell.
Since 2007 SEAT Sport races in the WTCC with a turbocharged diesel in its works Leons. The engine performance is regulated by a maximum turbo pressure by 2.5 bars plus a variable tolerance depending on atmospheric pressure and temperature. This is revised race by race. Now, without explanation, this tolerance has been removed by the FIA and the works SEATs are far from competitive in Pau. The petrol Leons however showed the potential in the cars with Tom Coronel in P3.
”The only thing I can do is to drive as fast as possible. I leave the politics to others. Just like the previuos races this year it is close between the SEAT Sport drivers but starting from 15th to 18th will hardly put us in a position to score points in any of the two races”, said Rickard Rydell.
