09-07-05 - Rydell on the podium in Portugal
It was two action packed WTCC races in Porto, Portugal. Sunday’s second race – in which Rickard Rydell was third – was also the 100th in the championship’s history.
The street circuit races in the WTCC are more often than not filled with action and the races in Porto were no exception. Both races had to be red flagged an restarted after several incidents. Sunday’s second race was also the 100th in the WTCC since Monza 2005 and Rickard Rydell was third in this historic race.
”Just like Brno two weeks ago I was fast but a mistake in qualifying ment that I started the first race from ninth. I was quite lucky to finish seventh, that position was more or less given to me as Andy Priaulx and Jörg Müller slowed down to give Augusto Farfus pole in race two”, said Rickard Rydell.
”In the second race I held second place but let team mate Yvan Muller pass, as he is the championship leader. I’m perfectly fine with that, and as we saw in the first race BMW also try to maximise their chanses with Farfus.”
Rydell is now fourth in the drivers’ championship and SEAT stretched out their lead in the manufacturers’ championship.
