09-07-16 - ”Home race” at Brands Hatch

This weekend the WTCC comes to Brands Hatch in England. Rickard Rydell, a former British Touring Car Champion and a fan of the Kent circuit, hopes to score points in both races on Sunday.

The WTCC hits classic motorsport ground this weekend as the series comes to Brands Hatch. The British round of the series is also this year’s ”home race” for Rickard Rydell. Having raced ten seasons in British series – both single seaters and touring cars – Britain is the Swede’s second home. Rydell was crowned British Touring Car Champion in 1998 and is joined by fellow champions Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller in SEAT Sport. Two more former champions races in the WTCC – Alain Menu and James Thompson.
”As usual in the WTCC we will race on the Grand Prix circuit this weekend. Actually it is one of my favourite circuits so I really look forward to the races. It is an old school circuit with classic corners like Paddock Hill Bend, Druids and Westfield, just to mention a few corners. Also, racing in Britain is always special for me. After ten seasons on British circuits and even more years with British teams, it feels a bit like coming home going to Brands Hatch”, said Rickard Rydell.
SEAT driver Rydell is currently fourth in the standings. He is 19 points behind Augusto Farfus, but only three ahead of Rob Huff and four ahead of Jörg Müller.
”I have managed to score points in the last four races and I hope that I can continue in the same way. Points in both races would be good, a podium even better!”
