11-08-09 - Rydell predicts close title race

This weekend the STCC is back after the summer break. Six weeks after Falkenberg the series heads to Karlskoga where Rickard Rydell has so far only tested. Second in the championship the Chevrolet driver predicts a close title race.

Six weeks after Falkenberg the STCC resumes this weekend in Karlskoga with a test day on Thursday, test and qualifying on Friday and two races on Sunday. Chevrolet driver Rickard Rydell is second in the championship, just two points behind VW stalwart Fredrik Ekblom.
”I am really looking forward to get back in the Cruze again! After a long break it is good to start with a test day on Thursday. From now on we have a race every fortnight until the finale at Mantorp in September. Looking back on the season so far, it will be a close fight in the championship until the very last race,” said Rickard Rydell.
”Fredrik Ekblom is doing a great job in his car and Tommy Rustad can catch us with some good results, and not to forget all the drivers fighting for race wins.”
On Saturday Rydell will do his first race in Karlskoga, just like an old friend who is joining the series. Italian Gabriele Tarquini replaces James Thompson at Polestar Racing with immediate effect.
”During my time in the Swedish F3 we only tested here, just like with Chevrolet so far. Anyway I believe we have a good chance of maintain our good form in the second half of the championship.”
”James Thompson leaving Volvo is of course disappointing, but at the same time it is great that Gabriele joins us for at least two races. We have raced a lot together and against each other during the years …”
